David Solomon is an active percussion performer, educator and composer in Seattle, Washington.  He has performed in a diverse range of musical settings, including classical, jazz, contemporary, popular and various world styles.  David recently completed a Master's Degree in Percussion Performance at the University of Washington, where he studied with Tom Collier, Mike Crusoe, Cuong Vu and Steve Korn.  

 

Since moving to Seattle in 2012, David has performed with a wide array of musical groups.  He has performed with the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra, Seattle Collaborative Orchestra and the Saratoga Orchestra.  He has also played with several local Seattle bands including: The Lucy Horton Band, The Fraidies & Tofte.  David is active in recording session work and formed an electro-acoustic percussion duo, RE:Percussion Duo.

 

In addition to being an active performer, David has a multitude of experience as a music educator.  Before relocating to Seattle, David served as Music Instructor at Willowwind Elementary where he taught PreK-6th grade general music and piano lessons.  He also directed the City High Percussion Ensemble in Iowa City.  David has worked as a Drumline and Frontline Instructor and Arranger at Linn-Mar High School, Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School and Boone High School in Iowa.  He has nine years of experience in private music instruction and has served as a percussion clinician throughout the state of Iowa.

 

As a student at the University of Washington, David performed with the UW Symphony Orchestra, the UW Wind Ensemble, UW Percussion Ensemble, UW Modern Jazz Band and Jazz Combos.  David earned a Bachelor’s of Music degree in Percussion Performance and Music Education from the University of Iowa where he studied with Dan Moore and Ginny Armstrong.  Mr. Solomon has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention as a member of Iowa Percussion and at Carnegie Hall with the UI Symphony Band.
